Vintage Laura Ashley and red lips.
Florals for spring/ summer, revolutionary I know! If you’ve been visiting here for a while, you’ll know I’m never one to say no to printed blooms – especially if they’re vintage and come with a Laura Ashley label. When the sun’s shining, I’m all about easy, breezy dresses that you can throw on and go. I tend to know that Summer’s just around the corner when I can start reaching for one of my favourite, summery Laura Ashley numbers – they’re just so effortlessly feminine and never fail to make me smile when I wear them.
I think I might need to start a section dedicated to vintage Laura Ashley pieces in my wardrobe soon, such is the extent of my collection! When I spotted this one in a Morningside charity shop recently, I knew it had to come home and join the rest. It’s unlike any of my others and I was drawn to its simple T-shirt shape, flattering empire line and midi length, as well as the unusual ditsy floral print (looks a bit like hyacinths? Help me floral experts!).
The palette of navy, pale grey and blue make it perfectly transitional too, at home with a leather jacket and boots now, or a denim jacket and sandals when (hopefully!) the weather’s a wee bit warmer. At £12 it was a no-brainer and it’s already had a lot of wear. I thought my new floral number would be suited to our beautiful setting when we had dinner at the Gardener’s Cottage recently .
I paired it with my staple Topshop leather jacket and oxblood Cambridge Satchel, my favourite Marks & Spencer fedora and new M&S burgundy Chelsea boots – a recent sale bargain at £20. I felt a wee bit ‘seventies boho with the combination of floaty skirt, floppy hat and boots. Which is no bad thing if you ask me.
The light cotton fabric makes it perfect for wafting around in all summer long. It was one of the first Golden Hours of the season and a gorgeous one at that – Edinburgh looks stunning whatever the weather, but in the sunshine she’s just glorious. Come back to Scotland, sunshine!
I’m also wearing my favourite new red lippie from Sisley, who kindly sent me a few products to try out recently. I’m a creature of habit when it comes to make-up and tend to stick to old favourites thanks to my sensitive skin. Sisley is firmly on my radar now thanks to their kind-to-skin formulae and high quality finish; this has become my new go-to red, a rich, blue-y shade that seems suited to my peely-wally complexion, with a lovely nourishing formula – perfect for the Scottish wind! It’s great for applying on the move and is lovely and pigmented so has serious staying power. The packaging is gorgeous too.
Sisley’s new scent Eau Tropicale has been getting me in the mood for summer too – light and spicy, with notes of ginger. I’m looking forward to trying their bronzer come summertime as well, it’s got a peachy pink tinge with a hint of shimmer. I’ve also been trying Sisley’s new ‘early wrinkles’ serum from their Sisley Youth range (they stay start at 25, but why not?!), which feels lovely on the skin and smells good enough to eat too. I’ll keep you posted on that one!
Sisley is available in Edinburgh at Harvey Nichols, House of Fraser & John Lewis. Have you discovered any make-up brands recently? What’s your favourite red?
Sisley gifted me these products for the purposes of review but I never post about anything I wouldn’t recommend a friend!

I do love vintage Laura Ashley – whenever I go in the shops now I think “oh, why can’t you re-capture the magic?” My Mum has a wardrobe full of 80’s/90’s grandad t-shirts, floral skirts and even those scarves, remember the cotton crochet scarves in every colour? She even has some original sloane ranger high necked blouses too. I’ve sold quite a few pieces on eBay but she can’t bare to part with the rest!
Love your story about your Mum’s collection, Cathy – funnily enough my Gran just passed on some of her cotton crochet scarves to me just the other weekend! They’re beautiful. Aww I bet, they’re just so special x
Great dress – I love your look, it often reminds me of a bit Fleetwood Mac (which is a very good thing). I’m so envious of your vintage Laura Ashley collection!
Thanks so much Kat 🙂 Hehe I’m flattered, that is a very good thing! I always seem to make a beeline for their stuff – so my style and usually still in great condition! x
Cute dress and I have a similar satchel! Love it x
