‘Seventies Seasonal Styling: Laura Ashley AW17

Laura Ashley AW17

This season I’ve joined forces with the lovely Laura Ashley again to put together a vintage-inspired outfit with a Rosie spin from their new collections; you can see the story on the Laura Ashley blog. I had so much fun putting the guest post together – keep scrolling for some bonus pictures from my favourite secret garden near Edinburgh.

Summer dressing for me is all about embracing an easy and effortless style uniform. The 1970s is one of my favourite fashion decades – particularly because this era is synonymous with Laura Ashley’s bohemian designs – and one that often inspires my seasonal uniform the most. Luckily for me, ‘seventies styling is back in vogue next season, from sweeping maxis to suede details, and while I’m not wishing away the Summer by any means, the influx of new season pieces influenced by the decade offers a welcome dose of sartorial inspiration.

A denim A-line midi is an easy way to tap into the trend and works just as well with sandals and a pretty pastel blouse now as it will with tights, boots and knitwear when the weather turns cooler – a versatile separate perfect for Summer and beyond. The embroidered pockets are a suitably retro reference, while the tassel detail of the suede bag nods to the ‘seventies trend too, but is subtle enough to become a wardrobe staple for many years to come, in a timeless forest green.

Broderie Anglaise is synonymous with British Summer. First popularised in the 19th Century, the cutwork lace was made iconic by style-setters such as Brigitte Bardot and Jane Birkin in the ‘sixties, and later reflected in the Victoriana-inspired designs pioneered by Laura Ashley in the ‘seventies and beyond. It’s a perfect partner for denim – especially in this retro cheesecloth fabric, with pin-tuck details, button-up front and lace trim –  making it well-suited for my off-duty, ‘seventies inspired Summer uniform.

Very pretty blouse, I shall look what collection for Autumn. I like the way you have contrasted this colour with navy. Your hair looks so nice. I spied this blouse too, browsing while sale shopping. I love some of the Laura Ashley clothes as they are so feminine for a womans body and complextion. At best in natural fabrics, I have enjoyed the archive prints this season. This blouse is a similar shape to broidere lace one at jigsaw, both have flattering arm length. I spend hours! looking at the named collections and how they have put the separates together. My favorites were ‘sunkissed ‘and pavilion there is a nice linen t shirt in amber yellow stripe very seventies! I have eye on, It’s interesting how some of the pieces blend into the next collection. I was looking at the clothes in Selfridges today, for English designers! Your recipes look good especially the blueberry loaf.
