For my last weekly Rosie Makes of 2019, I thought I would share a round-up of my best bakes of the year again. I’ve tried to reflect the seasons, flavours and special occasions associated with every month in my choices – though it was hard sticking to just one! There’s plenty more in my archives, and do let me know if you have any baking requests for 2020. Happy Hogmanay when it comes!
January:
Aromatic spice and nut millionaire’s shortbread with an orange shortbread base, sweet caramel and nutty chocolate topping to celebrate Burns Night. (I also shared the recipe for those sourdough crumpets, pictured above!)
February:
Blood orange brownies for Valentine’s Day: a winning combination in brownie form.
March:
Semlor lenten buns – featherlight sweet cardamom dough buns, filled with marzipan, topped with whipped cream and covered in icing sugar – to mark the start of lent in Scandi style.
April:
Vegan lemon and marzipan hot cross buns, delicious straight from the oven for Easter.
May:
Chocolate and Earl Grey torte – balancing rich, chocolatey notes with citrusy Earl Grey.
June:
Lemon and elderflower shortbread was a hit with readers – this has to be one of the recipes friends, family and readers tell me they’ve enjoyed the most!
July:
These strawberry and elderflower tarts with brown butter pastry were perfect for Summer picnics and parties.
August:
This lemon and lavender cake again combined my love of Summer’s floral flavours and was a big hit on my Instagram.
September:
Autumn arrived: my favourite, not least in the kitchen. This sticky chocolate plum cake made the most of seasonal fruit in a deeply chocolatey almond sponge.
October:
Salted caramel pumpkin spice cake was ideal for Halloween celebrations.
November:
Spicy leaf biscuits: the most delicious seasonal spiced gingerbread, perfect for Christmas too.
December:
These very festive peppermint chocolate profiteroles were a winning combination and another hit with my followers on Instagram.
Thanks for following in 2019 and for all the likes, comments, shares and saves – they mean so much. A very happy new year when it comes!
