Every year, around this time of year, I start getting extremely impatient for Spring to arrive. I adore the cosiness and stark beauty of Winter but by the time February rolls around my love affair with the season is well and truly dwindling, while the reality is that Spring is still a while off for us in Scotland. Thinking back to my first Seasons of Rosie post at the start of the year where I talked about trying to embrace the smaller seasonal details, I’m attempting to find ways to savour the season I’m in as well as nodding to the excitement and promise of the next – and that goes for all things wardrobe-related too.
So although I’m as guilty as the next person of Instagramming the first blossom or a Spring shelfie, I don’t need Storm Doris to tell me it’s definitely still coat weather in Scotland, and it will be a while yet before I pack away the knitwear for another year. That doesn’t mean sartorial doom and gloom though; instead, I’m making the most of fresh Spring shapes and a pastel-filled new season palette. Long-time blog readers will know that mint green is one of my favourite colours, so this Boden Joanna coat had me at hello. The elegant, ‘sixties-inspired cut, beautiful collar and oversized buttons feel fresh and new for the season ahead, but it’s deeply cosy too. My Gran calls it my ‘Queen coat’ as the combination of cut and colour is reminiscent of something HRH might wear. I think I’ll forego a matching hat for now though!
I continued the ‘sixties theme with an oversized, funnel-necked jumper and A-line skirt. I might look like a sugared almond, paired with the mint coat, but I couldn’t resist the Sofie jumper with its relaxed shape and ultra-snuggly texture. The black velveteen skirt is its perfect partner, peeping below the jumper here but it would look just as lovely tucked in – you can’t see in these shots but it has a high waist and nautical detail gold buttons. It will be lovely with a classic Breton when the weather warms up; a real everyday classic. To boot, my entire outfit is in the sale and there’s 15% off new season this weekend. I promise I wasn’t paid to tell you, but I know what a difference those discounts make! All I needed to accessorise was a matching door – the less said about how quickly I moved when it unexpectedly opened, the better…
