Royal Wedding preparations are reaching fever pitch here in the UK as the final countdown to Harry and Meghan’s nuptials begins. In a coincidental turn of events wedding season kicked off for me just last Saturday, so with column inches filling with speculation over the royal wedding dress and red white and blue-inspired fashions, I thought it would be timely to add my twopence and share my own take on wedding dressing!
’40s tea dresses have always had my heart – this vintage number is one of my favourite ever thrifting finds. There’s something particularly appealing about the style in spring: its fresh, flowing silhouette and delicate fabrics befitting the season. When I saw this Boden Ruth midi dress in their recent drop, the pattern sold it to me in a heartbeat – flowers and polka dots? In this dress you can have the best of both! Perfect for the sartorially indecisive like me. Don’t be fooled by how this shrinking violet of a dress looks on the hanger – its fitted waist, gentle gathering at bust and waist work their magic as soon as you slip this dress on, creating an hourglass silhouette and flowing into a gorgeous midi skirt in satin-backed crepe. It feels divine to wear and it’s impossible not to swish in. Plus, it has pockets! Need I say more? The rest of the high street needs to take note – it’s a pocket patriarchy out there.
Its only downfall is that it now comes in four separate colourways… I sense some serious damage about to be done to my credit card! The dress had its debut on a blossom picnic and restorative walk in the bluebell woods last weekend, before it danced the night away at a ceilidh the same evening – a dress fit for reeling if ever there was! Paired with a blush pink cardi and matching ’40s style T-bar heels I was dressed for a right royal do. Though my invite to this weekend’s wedding must have gotten lost in the post…
