The much-hyped Hogmanay is almost upon us (that’s New Year’s Eve to any non-natives) and although I don’t tend to go out these days, it’s still a great excuse to dress up! But when isn’t in my book, really?! A suddenly snowy Edinburgh seemed the perfect backdrop to share two very different ways that I’ll be wearing my new Mirabelle polka dot blazer this NYE – a surprisingly versatile wardrobe addition I didn’t even know I needed.
First up, a Doctor Zhivago-inspired ensemble. And no, I don’t mean full on furs, red gowns or even crisp shirt and tie combinations – rather icy shades and a faux fur cossack hat! I know, I know; it’s hardly Julie Christie but hear me out! The blush colour Farrah wrap dress was my starting point. It is just so opulent: made from silk velvet it drapes beautifully – fit for an ice palace. I couldn’t resist adding this snowy-hued hat that I bought in the Summer and was waiting for an icy day to debut. I wrapped up against the elements in matching blanket-esque scarf, while the fit of the jacket nips in the waist and gives the look more structure. The wrap of the dress fixed in place, perfect for twirling… With or without your thermals underneath!
The Boden Mirabelle blazer comes with matching trousers and for my second look, I couldn’t resist wearing them together. There’s something so empowering about wearing a well-cut trouser suit, especially in a statement print like this one – and I can’t wait to wear it for work, with heels and a buttoned-up shirt. For a festive, more casual look I wore the two-piece with flat boots and a vintage Kangol beret to dress it down and a suitably seasonal, bright red, pleat-detail bow blouse. I hope Lara would approve. My advice would be to size up on the trousers if you’re an hourglass shape, as they have quite a straight, cigarette cut. I can’t wait to wear the polka dot trews with a roll-neck and a ‘sixties swing coat in the New Year too!
What are you wearing this NYE? How would you wear a polka dot suit?!
