Patchwork florals, clashing colours, blouson sleeves, frill hem and a bow for good measure. When Boden’s beautifully boho Sybil midi dress first came into stock, I had visions of sunny days, rows of red tulips, posing in front of the first blossoms, or even daffodils gently nodding in the breeze. Then I remembered Spring in Scotland is still some way off. But I just couldn’t wait to share this outfit with you – so all thoughts of Springy photoshoots were put on the back burner for now. Instead, some shots frolicking in my new favourite frock in my all-time favourite glasshouse were in order.
Part of the Boden ten – the brand’s new capsule collection made up of key pieces to lift your wardrobe – the appropriately retro-named dress is the kind of standout piece that every wardrobe needs. It’s the sort of dress that you put on and instantly smile. Its hotchpotch of graphic florals has a delightful vintage-inspired Celia Birtwell or Orla Kiely feel. I love how it has been styled on the site with the bow tie around the neck rather than waist, and will definitely be wearing it this way to ramp up the ‘seventies style – talk about two looks for the price of one. It also drapes beautifully and skims any lumps and bumps in flattering fashion and, even better, it’s made from quality, lined polyester. No ironing necessary!
In lieu of a Spring-like backdrop, the Lena coat brightens things up all on its own, bringing a premature – and much needed – injection of Spring colour into this Winter-fatigued wardrobe. I’ve even found myself admiring it on the coat stand as I pass it in my hall – like a work of sartorial art. I was head over heels with the design as soon as I spotted it at the SS18 press day, though sadly Kate Middleton beat me to wearing it first! The structured design has a tailored cut and ruffled collar, pockets and sleeves, fit for a fashionable Princess. Its midi length goes perfectly with longer dresses like this one and ensures your outfit is protected from the elements: practical and stylish. I know I’ll be loving it for years to come. Lastly, I couldn’t possibly finish this post without mentioning the shoes. Red. Suede. Tassels. Sold!
What are you wearing at the moment? How are you brightening these late Winter days?
Dress, coat and shoes c/o Boden, but all love of clashing patterns and bold coats entirely my own!
