Hello, May! I never used to be fussed about this fifth month of the year – perhaps because it was always synonymous with exam season and its attendant stresses – but these days, while the exams remain (though I’m no longer the one sitting them) I have a newfound appreciation of all it offers. This month, I’m looking forward to bluebell hunting, lots of gardening, lilac, wisteria, long weekends, the start of wedding season and of course a certain royal wedding. This month necessitates plenty of day-to-night dressing, and what with the unpredictable weather – April showers missed the new month memo, contrasting with temperatures in the twenties too – my wardrobe needs to work even harder than usual!
Enter the Boden Brione knitted dress: show-stopping for all the right reasons. The kind of dress you step into that instantly makes you feel amazing. Smart enough for work but perfect for after hours. A mood lifter, a confidence booster – the fit and flare shape flatters whether worn with statement flats by day or heels by night. The full circle skirt complete with pleats is just made for twirling (honestly – you try to resist it!) and the clever stripe pattern not only draws the eye downwards to elongate the figure, but creates a colourful optical illusion as red merges into pink. I never thought I was one to pull off colour clashing, but this dress has me converted.
Worn with a biker jacket to dress it down or co-ordinating coat for daywear, Brione is another versatile addition to my wardrobe. A wee word of warning – the dress is best worn with jewellery and accessories that don’t click fabric, as I learnt to my peril by using my basket bag! Luckily it’s only tiny and the colour blocking so bold you can’t see it unless you’re looking. What are you wearing this May?
