Everyone needs at least one pleated skirt in their wardrobe; I daren’t make a tally of mine, but they’re just so versatile. Hear me out! Cleverly cut to highlight the waist and skim any lumps and bumps, the design is effortlessly elegant – working just as well thrown on with a T-shirt and flats at the weekend as it does with blouse and heels for work. The latest addition to my collection is the Boden Annabelle pleated skirt in emerald and navy: complete with high-waisted cut and shadow polka dot print, it makes for a real hero piece.
Annabelle had her first outing in iconic Portree on our trip to Skye last month – and she certainly suited her colourful backdrop. A tourist destination for sure but worth it for the photo opps (if you went to Skye and didn’t Instagram those pastel facades, did you really go?) and we enjoyed snapping away between strange looks from passers-by. I decided to amplify the vintage style with the Ella silk blouse in chalky rose – its cute ruffles, gathered sleeves and delicate covered buttons being perfectly retro. I know I’m going to get a lot of wardrobe mileage out of this one too. My wellies may not have been their natural companion but they were certainly necessary for clambering amongst the heather on our subsequent trip to the North of the island… more soon!
What’s your wardrobe hero item? Have you got a pleated skirt problem like me?
