Here are the last few snaps I took at Judy’s Affordable Vintage Fair, and at the request of Laura Ashley on Twitter, a few pictures of the vintage dress I picked up at the Fair! They have a great blog with all things Laura Ashley, behind-the-scenes features and expert opinions; you can check it out here.
The one that got away – I’ve really wanted a typewriter since I found this mint beauty at the Vintage Festival, and couldn’t afford it or carry it home! It’s not like I need a typewriter, it just embodies two of the things I love: writing, and all things retro! So you can see the attraction, and this one was such a gorgeous colour and in great condition. Alas, I wasn’t getting on the tube with this one either, and I’m holding out for an even greater bargain; I know there’s one waiting for me somewhere…
I also have a bit of a thing for old fashioned crockery, especially cute, slightly kitsch china – think mis-matched plates and cups with faded floral designs. I’m definitely picking some up at the next Fair to kit out our new flat!
I would have snapped up this vintage ladylike Laura Ashley frock in a heartbeat if it had been in my size – Betty Draper eat your heart out. I love the clashing bright colour palette and flirty fifties fit and flare style.
I also have a thing for buttons…
How adorable are these china cups? And they were a bargain too – 3 cups with matching saucers for £3!
Gorgeous retro shoes – I love the colours and the pointed shapes, both flats and low heels.
More polkadots! This time in navy with a banana yellow spot – very chic.
Vintage champagne glasses – very Gatsby. I’d love to have these in the new flat too!
Muted florals and ladylike cuts…
The camel coat – I didn’t think my petite frame could quite carry this one off but it’s an absolutely classic style.
There were some serious bargains to be had! And I’m saving the best ’til last – here’s the pastel-hued ditsy floral print vintage Laura Ashley dress I picked up for £25:
The pastel colour palette caught my eye, as did the classic Laura Ashley ditsy print! I love the mix of lilac and pale pink contrasted with the cool mint green and the almost digital quality of the precise floral pattern. The cut is incredibly feminine, with a nipped in waist, V-neck and button front. The length is a perfectly ladylike midi, and I love the very eighties puffy sleeves (see below). A very “Rosie” dress if ever there was one and it received a fair few compliments today! I paired it with my leather biker jacket and heeled ankle boots to toughen up the look a little but I think it would look lovely with really girly styling too – perhaps some lace ankle socks and loafers, straw boater, retro sunglasses and a vintage bag.
